This means neither team or player wins or loses but the game ends in a draw!So what’s with Anish Giri?So why are we jumping from draw to Anish Giri, who is he? Okay, Anish Giri is a Russian-born Dutch chess player who became Grand Master (GM) at the age of 14 years. He is currently part of Super GMs meaning, mostly in world’s top 10.
Candidates tournament is the 2nd biggest chess tournament (of course after the World Chess Championship) that decides who will challenge the reigning World Champion! An extremely prestigious and important hurdle that a chess player has to win over if a player wishes to become World Champion! People go for win here, prepare for months to win this. Now, Anish has a unique record – drawing all 14 games of the Candidates Tournament in 2016!
Anish-giri is The event and in general ‘Anish drawing games’ started getting a lot of attention, comments and remarks from chess players, commentators, critics and so on. Now, look at this, someone can get distracted, but Anish remained focused and is part of elite chess circles all throughout.

Draw in Chess and Solidity in Life
Think about it, when you go for a draw, you actually build a solidity, you send a message that I’m difficult to break! Isn’t it a firm message that I also should not get carried away with the glamour of winning and I’m rock solid, it’s not at all easy to defeat me?
A parallel in life, say for a student, isn’t it better to say I’ll never fall below say 70% on any given exam, for a corporate professional, it would be like I’ll always show consistency and is a backbone of any team I work with. It needs immense focus, hard work, patience and mental toughness to do so as you don’t know drift away.
What we are learning is not to get carried away. In current times, we are having a flood of information, from flavor of month, we are coming to flavor of week, so what’s next – flavor of day? If we organize, plan and focus well, we would be able to get to our goal and progress, else it’s very easy to drift away.
Reflection on Anish’s Life
Let’s see how Anish is different than his peers. Giri is fluent in Russian, English, Dutch and moderately proficient in Japanese, Nepali and German. He got married relatively at a younger age with Chess International Master (IM) Sopiko Guramishvili in 2015. They have a son named Daniel. Anish is seen spending a good amount of time happily. Being happy, isn’t it the most important thing in life? Anish has published a book in 2014. He has a YouTube channel and is consistently active on social media handles such as Tweeter, Instagram where you see a huge fan base of Anish across countries.
